I danced at collective from around 8 years old and always looked up to the older students and the student teachers. After being diagnosed with a serious knee problem at 13 it became painful to dance, but I'm sure my stubbornness to succeed and need to do well and push myself came from my dance teachers, never giving up on me! I knew I wanted to be the same. So age 16 I started the 3 year course at Collective, learning not only professional skills of dance, but teaching qualifications!! It was the best move I made! At nearly 19 I left collective with my qualifications under my belt. I knew my professional dance career wouldn't be long, as my knees were suffering, even operations couldn't help. So I danced my way round the uk and jersey, and finally aged 22, I finished my last job on the Isle of Wight. Then with the help of my now Husband and Parents, I set up my own dance school- Lanestars school of Dance!
I started small; phoned a local primary school and asked to hire it out 2 evenings a week, and by the end of the first term I had 50 children. Now next year I enter my 15th year of teaching!! teaching children from 18 months up to adults (around 150 students) And I love it! Teaching is the way forward and I thank my past teachers, for pushing me to be the best I could be!!
